To prevent this, it is advisable to be wary of any signs of disrepair. So is you washing machine about to break down?

Water lingers in the drum after a cycle

When you are done with your laundry cycle, the drum of the washing machine should automatically empty itself. If you begin to notice there are puddles lingering inside it, you need to determine the case and fix it before it becomes aggravated. A common cause for this is clogging due to clothes becoming caught up in the pump. This is a simple fix as removing the clothing items should allow drainage to happen. Another reason is if there are clogs within the drainage hose. Lastly, your washing machine may have a malfunctioning pump and this would have to be repaired by a professional technician.

Water is not making its way into the drum

Another cause of concern would be if the drum of your washing machine is not adequately filling up or is not receiving any water at all. A minor cause for this would be a blocked hose, which can easily be remedied by you. Inadequate water supply may also occur if someone set the washing machine on a delayed cycle and you are unaware of this. However, a more serious cause for this would be if the intake valve has developed a clog. The more complex it is to access the components, the more prudent it is to leave the washing machine repairs to professionals.

The drum has stopped spinning

In order for your laundry to become clean, the washing machine needs to be on a spin cycle. This is whereby the drum spins to agitate the dirt out of your garments. If the drum is spinning slowly or if it has stopped spinning altogether, it could indicate that one of its belts has acquired damage or is broken.
